Image
Osteoporosis simply put is the weakening of the bones. It also means "porous bones". It's a health condition that weakens bones and puts the Individual at higher risk of fracture or other bone-related diseases.                                    Osteoporosis develops when bone density decreases. This is majorly due to aging where their is breakdown of bone tissues with the body not producing enough to replace them. This, reducing the bone mass density, making the bones brittle and weak. It usually doesn't have any noticeable symptoms until there is an impact on the affected bone which h may likely result to fracture or irreversible bending.      Major areas affected by Osteoporosis includes the spines, ribs, joints of the legs, hips, and even wrists.                                                      Osteoporosis occurs as a result of loss of many bone minerals mainly calcium salts.             SYMPTOMS OF OSTEOPOROSIS Sadly, osteoporosis has no noticeable signs ot

Xerophthalmia: a serious eye condition

Xerophthalmia is a medical condition in which the eye film is reduced and the eye is incapable of producing tears. This appears when there is something wrong with lacrimal glands and their main function, meaning to produce tears, is affected.  Xerophthalmia is also known as the dry eye syndrome or conjunctivitis arida and it can affect the quality of life to an extensive level. The tears are very important to the health of our eyes, because they actually keep it lubricated.  Without eye film, we would never be protected against particles and debris coming from the outside. This is why having healthy tear film also guarantees healthy eyes, meaning a good vision as well.  Stages of xerophthalmia Severe xerophthalmia is virtually confined to infants and young children and usually associated with protein-energy malnutrition.  The stages are classified by the WHO as follows: 1. Night blindness (XIN) is the earliest symptom but not elicited in infants. In conjunctival xerosis (XIA) one or m

MIND BLOWING FACTS ABOUT VITAMINS

MIND BLOWING FACTS ABOUT SOME SELECTED VITAMINS YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE KNOWN BEFORE(Vitamin A) Hey guys, I know you've heard about vitamins and what they do in the body. But do you have a concrete knowledge about them??? Don't worry. I'm here to give you all the information you need. All of them are scientifically proven and can be researched. In this blog post, I'll be dealing with a group of vitamins called "the fat soluble" vitamins.   I'll be treating them one in each post starting with Vitamin A. However, let me give you an overview of what Vitamins are.                         WHAT ARE VITAMINS?   Vitamins are organic compounds required by the body in small amounts(mostly in micrograms) for metabolism, to protect health, and proper growth. They assist in the formation of hormones(substances which control so many activities in the body) blood cells, nervous system, chemicals and genetic material.    They generally act as catalysts to activate enzymes (m

Things you don't know about Blood pressure, diseases and remedies/advice

Blood pressure diseases(high blood pressure and low blood pressure) are no longer big words for some many people round the globe but where the problem lies is in understanding the real meaning of those words/terms and their implications for mankind.    Join me on this journey as I break them down for you the way you'll understand it.          High Blood Pressure Before I go on to explain those term, let me explain blood pressure and how to take it measurements. Blood pressure is the pressure of circulating blood against the walls of the blood vessels. Simply put, its the force with which blood hits the walls of blood vessels. It is measured in millimeters of mercury(mmHg). The blood pressure is usually expressed in terms of the systolic pressure(maximum pressure during one heartbeat) and diastolic pressure(minimum pressure during 2 heartbeats) in the cardiac cycle. The blood pressure is one of the vital signs that healthcare professionals use in evaluating patient's health.
